Frequently Asked Questions
Jill Todd, DVM has practiced veterinarian medicine since 1996. She is committed to consistent quality veterinary care and educating clients on how to keep their pets healthy year round using complimentary holistic medicine and herbal therapy.
Holistic medicine looks at a pet’s overall health, and use traditional and alternative therapies. Dr. Todd routinely works with her patient’s Vets to reference lab tests and prescription drugs to determine the best treatment options for acupuncture, chiropractics and herbal remedies to help pets heal and remain healthy.
Dr. Todd’s philosophy as a holistic veterinarian emphasizes empathy and minimal invasiveness. Holistic veterinary medicine is a type of veterinary medicine that uses complimentary and integrative medicine in the treatment of animals.
No. The combined holistic care regime for your pet is minimally to noninvasive and will not cause direct pain or harm. Depending on the patient, they can either lie or stand when they receive treatment. Most find it relaxing and should be allowed to rest after a treatment to minimize strain and or re-injury.
Most animals will find acupuncture, VOM and cold laser therapy relaxing and tend to enjoy the treatment. Dr. Todd provides treatments to an range of pets including dogs, cats and horses but not limited too.
Acupuncture can be used on all species of animals, and has documented efficacy on a wide range of species from elephants to mice. However, it tends to be more frequently used on companion animal species such as the horses, dogs and cats.
Chiropractic treatment of animals is different than that of treating humans. Dr. Todd practices Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation (VOM), which is less invasive than spinal manipulation as it uses an Activator instrument to stimulate the vertebra and decrease subluxations to facilitate release of muscular pain and inflammation.
Cold laser therapy is a noninvasive procedure that uses light to stimulate cell regeneration and increase blood circulation. The treatment is a relatively new concept that is being used more recently to treat dogs, cats and horses with arthritis, tendon or soft tissue injuries and to promote wound healing.
